A hunter has tracked down a giant 4.5-meter crocodile that he calls a “cannibal dinosaur”.
Giant crocodile weighing 450kg was shot dead in Zimbabwe.
Hunter Garrett Wales from Texas, USA, has a 10-day trip in Zimbabwe. Here, Wales heard locals tell an anecdote about a mysterious giant crocodile living in the waters of the Save valley, Zimbabwe.
Wales, having hunted crocodiles and other creatures, immediately showed interest. “There is a legend that there are crocodiles living there but no one has ever seen them with their own eyes,” Wales said.
Despite the dangers from crocodiles, locals still go to the river to get water and bathe there.
Wales thought that the giant crocodile, if real, would threaten the lives of local people, so decided to hunt it.
With the help of some locals, this hunter from the US spread some pieces of meat as bait for the crocodiles. The next day, the meat was still intact, but Wales noticed noises in the reeds near the riverbank.
It takes 9 people to carry the giant crocodile carcass on the truck.
“The giant crocodile turned out to be sunbathing. It saw us and immediately swam into the water. I couldn’t see it clearly but it was a very big crocodile,” Wales said.
For five days, Wales and the locals hunted crocodiles. On the fifth day, they again found the crocodile on the shore and shot it dead at close range.
The crocodile, estimated to weigh 450kg, was loaded onto the truck. “I’ve hunted many dangerous creatures in my life, but I’ve never seen such a big crocodile with my own eyes,” Wales said. “It’s really amazing.”
Wales posted a picture of a crocodile carcass on Facebook. Some netizens praised Wales for helping to protect local villagers.
Others questioned why not capture the crocodile alive and release it somewhere safer. The hunter replied, “It’s not that simple.”
